Interview: Justina Seselskaite

Justina Seselskaite is bringing her working-class,
LGBTQ+ immigrant comedy to the Edinburgh Fringe

Mumble: Hello Justina – can you tell us where you are from, & where are you living in 2026?
Justina: I’m originally from Lithuania, I moved to the UK in 2014 and now living in sunny Manchester and loving it!

Mumble: When did you realise you had the entertainment gene?
Justina: I think I realised pretty early on that I was one of those annoying kids who always needed an audience. Making people laugh was my favourite thing from day one. The second I was old enough, I joined a youth comedy sketch group – I was seven!

Mumble: Cool – well you’re bringing a show to this year’s Fringe, what’s it call’d & what’s it all about?
Justina: My show is called Settled. It’s on every day of the Fringe except the 28th at 19:50 @ Slice 1 at Hoots, Hilton (Bread Street). It’s a comedy show about me getting “settled” (see what I did there) into life in the North of England after moving there from Lithuania in 2014. Basically: culture clashes, British culture, cultural differences, immigration, identity and many other topics that probably should’ve been discussed in therapy instead. It will be good fun!

Mumble: What processes have you gone through during the creation of the show – & with one month out from the Fringe, is it ready?
Justina: This show is basically the result of nearly two years of trying, testing and slowly figuring out the funniest ways to say things. A lot of the material has been properly road-tested at gigs and previews over that time, so at this point the show itself feels pretty much there! There are still some technical bits and small tweaks to sort, but I’m really excited for people to finally see it!

Mumble: OK – so, the Mumble’s classic question: which 3 comedians – alive or dead – are you having round for a three-course meal, & what are you cooking up?
Justina: I think I’d go for Victoria Wood, Katherine Ryan and George Carlin. I absolutely would not subject them to my cooking though. We’d definitely be going out for a proper pub tea somewhere cosy where you can sit and chat for hours!

Mumble: What kind of things will you get up to in Edinburgh while you’re not performing?
Justina: Mostly napping, honestly. But also watching loads of other amazing shows, wandering around and enjoying the amazing city that is Edinburgh. I’m also randomly going to a Bon Jovi concert while I’m up there, so will be very memorable month I’m sure!

Mumble: You’ve got 10 seconds to plug your show to someone in the streets of Edinburgh – what do you say?
Justina: Come see Settled it’s a funny show about immigration and settling in the UK (see what I did there?) please come I’m doing Fringe and I don’t have rich parents!

Mumble: What does the rest of 2026 have in store for Justina Seselskaite & Settled?
Justina: The rest of 2026 is all about getting Settled out into the world. I’m taking the show to the Edinburgh Fringe this August, then hopefully to more audiences around the UK. Alongside that, I’m launching The Favourites Pod, writing more, gigging loads, and hopefully there’s a holiday somewhere in the horizon
