SWG3, TV Studio
25th March, 2025
The TV Studios at Glasgow’s SWG3, called locally as Sweg, was home last night to the great Cleopatrick, a Canadian heavy rock band, the room blooming, once more, into its small and phenomenal energy. This ever-loved venue’s meticulous layout has acoustics that make the music blend between the crowds and their favourite songs.
In this heightened revelling, Cleopatricks music came at first from a duo of drum, vocal and guitar, which was impressive considering the sound they made. There seemed to be some pre-recorded scores that their new songs jammed to. Forming in 2015, after a period of listening to bands like AC/DC, they had an idea of how they would want their music to come across.
Their organisational skills have bloomed alongside their music, playing their reformed heavy metal and having the great notion to record on their own label ‘Nowhere Special’. Their debut album hit in 2021 called ‘Bummer’. This came after 6 years of building their rich music, touring, festivals and honing their somewhat unique act. Then they went on to record their second in 2025 called ‘Fake Moon’.
Their debut EP in 2016 called ‘14’ sped up the charts to no six, which is not bad for a first try. Their creative entourage doesn’t stop there, producing music videos, their own art, and compelling fans to be in a devoted state of praise. I absorbed the flavours of a mixture between Anthrax, in the 80’s and Soundgarden, also of that period. In an interesting way their game play had anthemic vocals as the music boomed behind it through the room in just the right notes.
After a couple of numbers from both albums, there came on to join the duo another electric guitar, and a bass. The furthering sound, already turned up high, and was jovially played. Spacial awareness and a love of lighting fill these gigs at this venue with an exciting atmosphere. And, in the waves of that effect, Cleopatrick entertained to an out there music, and a very relaxed communion with the audience. They came across to easily bring feelings of a rock club through loudness and sensitive lyrics.
It’s good to see so much going on in this musically vibrant city; enjoying life with live music has that special quality, I felt I could take a back seat there and just enjoy the room, taste the new styles and head home feeling the buzz. Cleopatrick rocked the night, told their stories and blasted through the venue.
