The fantastic Gossip are a rock band from America, forming way back in 1999, and were originally signed up to record their eponymous EP,‘The Gossip’. Then came the great fame of their 2006 album ‘Standing in the way of control’, with a title song who shared a force of nature and defiant message shared with the world. Two decades later, the band’s lead singer, Beth Ditto (writer and vocalist), was adoringly welcom’d to the packed ‘Galvaniser’ room at Glasgow’s SWG3.

The epic-sized venue is just made for cool gigs, and the Gossip five-piece took the night by storm, and it with kick-ass energy they brought good music to the forefront, music to entertain us in its most joyful state. Beth’s vocals drawing you in, as she touched on an application of a great many genres of historical music, her strident personality clearly tuned to a high operational level.

Gossip’s new album, released only this year, titled ‘Real Power’, is a fresh recording from a band who are constantly upgrading their plight for finding truth in their own environment. The instruments were on fire – vocals, bass, drum, keyboard/synth and electric guitar -, a phenomenally tight performance booming through the room with their great roar of rock, and crushing it completely with songs able to blend heavy metal with jazz, or funky soul with rock n roll; and all with a very sexy tempo.

Beth’s presence on stage and adulation for the crowd poured out of her with an outstanding vocal range that has put her on the map in the music world and for fans alike. She sets alight a deep power pulsing from the bottom to the tops of our souls – a very special feeling shared by an audience revelling in the wake of wake-up music.

In a way Gossip are the perfect band, with high levels of creativity streaming across a stage, making the music that music should be. The energy was awesome and nonstop for a good hour and a half, brightly insightful and we fully aware that they are giving us their all.
